A social problem which concerns me is the territorial claim of Dokdo by Japan. This is seriously important because if we lose Dokdo, we lose our history, territorial waters, and resources. As well, Korea and Japan relationship will get worse. Korea and Japan affect this issue, and both sides insist that Dokdo is one’s homeland. Korea has many reasons in insisting dominium. First, in 1877, the Japanese government declared publicly Dokdo is Korea’s territory. Second, Dokdo is recorded clearly as our land in the documents from the Joseon Dynasty period. Third, Dokdo was regained according to the Cairo Declaration. On the other side, Japan also has many reasons in insisting dominium. First, in 17C, Japan had dominium of Dokdo. Second, the U.S.A admitted the Japan’s dominium on the Treaty of San Francisco. Third, in 1905, Dokdo was included Shimane. I’m interested in this social issue because I don’t want to lose Dokdo. I think Dokdo is definitely Korean territory, and Japan must stop claim.
